PREMIER INDUSTRIES, INC.

Evaporative Cooling Module

Specifications

GENERAL:  The evaporative cooling module shall be a self contained, single housing unit consisting of a housing with sump, sides and top, rigid cooling media with support channel, water distribution system , make-up water, drain and overflow fittings and selected accessories.

1.1 The evaporative cooling module shall be constructed from Stainless Steel, grade 304.  The outer housing shall consist of a sump, sides and top.   An externally mounted access panel shall be provided for access to and adjustment of the float valve assembly  (when pump re-circulating system is used) and balancing valve to control water flow to header pipe. The housing shall also provide a method of cooling media access and removal.  Standard removal method is through a side lift off panel however removal can be accomplished through removable rails on the intake and discharge side of media when so specified.  All metal in the wet section shall be Stainless Steel, grade 304 or similar non-corrosive metal.

2.1   Sump construction shall include TIG (fusion) welded corners and joints.  The sump shall be leak proof without the use of fillers, sealants or coatings.  A media support channel with punched holes on a staggered pattern shall be included. This channel shall extend across the full width of the media.  The channel shall provide a minimum of 50% open area for water to flow freely from the media into the sump.

2.2   An air bypass inhibitor plate shall be provided from the bottom of the media, extending into the water to preclude any untreated air flow under the media.

3.1  Internal plumbing shall be PVC schedule 40 sized to meet flow rate demand.  A balancing valve shall be provided in the riser pipe between the source and header to regulate water flow over the media.  Header pipe shall contain drilled and cleaned orifice holes sized to assure proper water flow over the media.  Water from the header pipe shall be discharged upwards against a stainless steel deflector to redirect the water from the header pipe back onto the media, evenly across its' full width. A PVC union shall be provided in the riser pipe below the header pipe to facilitate removal of the header pipe.

3.2  Stainless Steel couplers with female pipe thread shall be welded into the sump and side to provide for make-up water, overflow and drain.  Size shall be as specified.

4.1  A pump type re-circulating system with float valve assembly shall be provided. Pump horsepower and voltage requirements shall be as specified in schedule.  (An optional low water level protection system similar to Premier model LWLS-1, or equal is available when the pump system is used).  A bleed-off system with metering valve shall be provided when the pump system is used.  Bleed-off rate shall be minimum of 20% of evaporation rate.  Pump shall be sized to deliver water flow rate at the head and pressure required. Flow rate shall be determined at two times the evaporation rate plus the bleed-off rate.  Pump housing must be glass-filled thermoplastic or polypropylene construction with cast bronze or polypropylene impeller and shaft.

5.1 Cooling media shall be   High Efficiency Rigid Media, 12" thick or as specified.  This media is a cross- fluted  pad of cellulose material impregnated with anti-rot salts and rigidifying saturants and wetting agents with at least 123 square feet of evaporative surface area per cubic foot of media.  The transverse flutes shall be 450 and 150 with water flow in the direction of the 450 flute and air flow in the direction of the 150 flute.  Media shall have no more than .25" w.g. air pressure drop at 500 feet per minute face velocity and shall develop a saturation efficiency of not less than 89% for 12" thick media.

5.2  Media access and removal shall be accomplished through a removable side or top panel or removable rails provided for this purpose.

6.1 Optional Electrical controls shall consist of a minimum of a contactor to control water distribution externally mounted in a housing.  The electrical controls housing shall be NEMA 3 for indoor units and NEMA 3R for outdoors installation. We can incorporate a wide variety of specialty controls for your particular application.
