General Description: The Converta-Pak is an evaporative cooling module with a housing and sump constructed from Stainless Steel, grade 304, 20 gage. It is a self contained unit with the pump and float assembly as specified and High Efficiency Rigid Media, in a thickness as specified. Water is supplied to a header pipe on the top of the media for its' full width. A stainless steel water deflector is provided across the full width of the media to grip the media on the face and back for support. Water is discharged from the header pipe upwards onto the inside of the water deflector to be directed back onto the top of the media to assure full wetting of the media.
The Converta-Pak is mechanically attached to the Swamp Cooler or Rotary Wheel unit to replace the existing cooling section thereby upgrading the existing unit and concurrently increasing the cooling efficiency.
Housing: The housing shall be constructed from Stainless Steel, grade 304, 20 gauge material. It shall consist of a sump, sides, permanent back bar and removeable cover. The sump shall be fusion (TIG) welded at the corners and joints to assure leakproof construction without additional sealers or fillers. Stainless Steel drain and overflow couplers (FPT) shall be fusion (TIG) welded into the sump. A stainless steel coupler (FPT) will be welded into the side for make-up water.
The sides shall include a front and rear flange turned in to facilitate mounting and increase strength. A specially formed back bar with in-turned flange shall be permanently attached to the top of the housing. A removeable cover will be provided for easy access to the media and header pipe and the interior of the unit.
A prepunched stainless steel channel shall be provided to support the media across its full width and shall allow free flow of water from the bottom of the media into the sump. Open area of the channel shall not be greater than 50% with the remaining 50% to support the media. An air bypass inhibitor panel shall be provided with this channel which extends from the top of the channel and into the water to prevent untreated air flow under the media.
Cooling Media: The cooling media shall be High Efficiency Rigid Media, Thickness to be as specified. This media is constructed from a cellulose material with rigidifying saturants and anti-rot salts with a minimum of 123 square feet of evaporative surface area per cubic foot. This media shall perform at a minimum of 95% Saturation Efficiency at 500 Feet per Minute face velocity in 12" thickness.
Plumbing: Internal plumbing shall consist of a make-up coupler 1/2" FPT, a riser pipe and header pipe using schedule 40 pipe, 1/2" diameter or as otherwise specified. A balancing valve (1/2" PVC) shall be provided between the water source and header pipe. A union shall be included in the riser pipe near the header pipe to facilitate removal of the header pipe.
Water distribution system: A recirculating pump is used. A float valve assembly will be included fitted to the make-up water coupler welded into the side of the unit. A bleed-off system consisting of a 1/8" (minimum) I.D. pipe/tube with a metering valve to allow for water to flow from the pressure side of the pump to the overflow fitting to bleed-off a pre-set amount of water. (Approximately 20% of the evaporation rate of the media.
Installation: Mechanical installation of the Converta-Pak to the existing unit being converted shall be made through the internal flanges on the sides and top of the Converta-Pak with stainless steel self drilling screws or similar hardware. All joints shall be sealed with silicone to prevent untreated air flow around the media. On Swamp Coolers being converted, the existing louvered panels remaining on the unit shall be covered with blank panels. Galvanized steel panels are acceptable for this purpose. Access to the entire interior of the existing cooler housing shall be assured by mounting the blank-off panels to allow removal of the panel.
Note: The panels can be ordered from Premier at time of purchase of Converta-Pak unit otherwise Blank-off panels and mounting hardware are to be provided by the installer.

Installation on Rotary Wheel Units: The entire wet section of the Rotary Wheel unit will be removed including the sump. External plumbing shall be disconnected and retained for use on the Converta-Pak after conversion. The Converta-Pak unit will be attached to the Fan Section with stainless steel self-drilling screws or appropriate mechanical fasteners.
The external plumbing will be connected to the make-up water, drain and overflow on the converta-Pak. Electrical controls and supply should be already in place remaining after the Rotary Wheel is removed. The installer will make the necessary electrical and external plumbing connections.
